The Facts
Orange Sky was founded on the idea of providing free laundry services to people sleeping rough, but today, our support spans much wider.
Only 7% of the 122,000 Australians experiencing homelessness are living on the street – the majority reside in supported accommodation, boarding houses, temporary lodgings or households, or severely overcrowded dwellings.
As the cost of living crisis deepens, the need for basic and essential services – like Orange Sky’s – continues to grow.
We are seeing more and more people experiencing financial hardship or at risk of homelessness relying on Orange Sky’s services. It’s not uncommon for someone to use our service to save $20 on laundry for the week so they can redirect that money towards a meal for their family.
With 1 in 3 Australians identifying money as a significant cause of stress in their lives, there’s never been a more important time to ensure we are there to support where it’s needed most.
Despite only making up 3.8 percent of the overall population, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples make up one-fifth of all Australians experiencing homelessness.
Orange Sky has worked alongside remote communities since 2018 to create impact through access to free laundry facilities, local employment and local partnerships.
When disaster strikes, Orange Sky provides urgent and temporary support for those impacted by natural disasters – particularly during Australia’s unpredictable summer.
From bushfires to floods and cyclones, we aim to be there to support people who never thought they’d need a service like Orange Sky’s.
Due to the mobility of our service, we are able to mobilise quickly and provide assistance to communities in need.
