The Perfect Legacy – The Van Named After My Dad
‘The F Word’ Podcast Series, Episode 3
The tear-jerking third episode of The F Word features Nic and Lucas’ heartfelt tribute to Rob (aka. Rosco), a volunteer at the Sunshine Coast whose limitless generosity left a lasting impact.
Tune in as Rosco’s wife, Denise, shares their enchanting love story that started with a smile and a wink, and their daughter shares her experience learning from a life-of-the-party, intensely loving and “dorky” dad who took a genuine interest in others.
A smile and a wink
‘Even when Rosco was hit hard by unexpected, out-of-character health issues toward the end of his life, he never lost his spirit. Denise reflects, “He would always give me a smile, and a little wink. I remember saying ‘Do you still believe you’ll be healed?’ And he said, ‘Absolutely’. And that was the last word he said to me.”
For Orange Sky founders Nic and Lucas, making Rosco’s impact permanent, and honouring his unconditional generosity and commitment to friends in his community, was essential.
“As he was being led out of the church, that’s where I turned around to see a sea of people in Orange Sky t-shirts. To me, that was the highlight; all these people honouring my dad in Orange Sky shirts. Then we go out, and there’s a new van – that was beyond healing for me.”
“…It was the perfect legacy. This van was named after my dad, Rosco. It just brought so much satisfaction… I can’t put it into words. Grief is about death and dying and loss, but there was this sea of Orange just bringing this sense of hope, honour, support. And this beautiful van… it sparked such joy.”
