Our weekly impact in Gladstone

Orange Sky celebrated the launch of their 37th service by introducing a laundry pod to Gladstone in May 2023.

Data from the 2021 Census revealed that homelessness in Gladstone had increased by 34 per cent since 2016. The increase in homelessness resulted in heightened demand on support services in the region, being one of the key reasons we set our sights on Gladstone, aiming to help support the growing number of locals experiencing hardship.

Usually delivering our services via iconic bright orange mobile vans, the Gladstone community welcomed a different laundry asset type, an original invention by our innovation team – a ‘Laundry Pod’.

Funded by The Minderoo Foundation, this laundry pod is fitted with two washing machines and two dryers, supporting the Gladstone community with essential hygiene services, and a safe place to connect with their community.

The Orange Sky laundry pod is stationed at the Philip Street Community and Families Precinct, a space that brings together community groups and service providers, offering a unique opportunity to work collaboratively and impact the Gladstone community, enabling access to multiple resources and services in one place.
