We’re Stuck Here, So Let’s Have a Chat
‘The F Word’ Podcast Series, Episode 2
Two 20-year-olds, an idea, an engineering challenge. Yet, according to Nic and Lucas on this episode of The F Word, it was the conversation as they waited for Sudsy’s first load to finish that truly ignited Orange Sky’s vision.
Just two young blokes from Brisbane
‘We’re Stuck Here, So Let’s Have a Chat’ is your chance to hear from the people that knew the co-founders best far before Orange Sky was ever dreamed of.
“Lucas was diametrically opposed to what Nic was like, as I understand. I don’t think Lucas ever had a day off school, or a detention […]. He used to do ‘show and tell’s on the square roots of numbers while other kids were talking about their pet rocks,” Lucas’ mum shares.
“Nic isn’t a cookie cutter person at all. He doesn’t learn by hearing something, or reading something; he learns by pulling something apart or seeing something that catches his interest and trying to build it,” Nic’s mum adds.
Similarly, their partners, teachers and communities have plenty of memories to share of the founders’ friendship, the creation of Sudsy and the “wild crazy idea” that became Orange Sky.
A tale of persistence and mateship with a stranger
“We let Geordan down, the first day, the second day […] But we had this conviction that this person, Geordan, had trusted us. So, for whatever reason, we kept on going back to that park and on the third day, the van worked perfectly…”
Above all, trust from friends is what has strengthened Orange Sky’s resolve year after year ever since. It pushes all of us to innovate and adapt on the fly, determined to support even more people just like Geordan.
Tune in to Nic and Lucas’ nostalgic yarn, delving deep into Orange Sky’s humble beginnings. From stumbling on the organisation’s biggest purpose, to unpacking the meaning behind the name ‘Orange Sky Laundry’, all is revealed on this candid episode of The F Word, ‘We’re Stuck Here, So Let’s Have a Chat’.
