Orange Sky Australia is committed to providing access to clean clothes, warm showers and genuine, non-judgemental conversation for all Australians. In remote communities, access to laundry services can be limited and cost prohibitive. To support this, Orange Sky works alongside remote communities to build impact through free laundry, local employment and local partnerships.
Our weekly impact in Aurukun
Aurukun is a coastal shire in Far North Queensland, 800 kilometres north west of Cairns.
In November 2021, Orange Sky’s remote team responded to a government public health request for laundry services in Aurukun. This led to a permanent service for the community which launched in April 2022, alongside RESET.
Aurukun’s community is rich in traditional cultural practices. We are grateful to the Traditional Custodians – Wik, Wik Way and Kugu people – our community partner, RESET, and Aurukun residents for allowing Orange Sky to provide the community a safe and respectful place for laundry and connection.
