Orange Sky Australia is committed to providing access to clean clothes, warm showers and genuine, non-judgemental conversation for all Australians. In remote communities, access to laundry services can be limited and cost prohibitive. To support this, Orange Sky works alongside remote communities to build impact through free laundry, local employment and local partnerships.

Our weekly impact in Gapuwiyak

Gapuwiyak is a remote East Arnhem community on the shore of Lake Evella.

Gapuwiyak is located 800 kilometres east of Darwin and is home to a population of almost 1,000 residents. Our Gapuwiyak service provides residents access to free laundry “facilities” and a chance to chat.

Orange Sky established a laundry service in Gapuwiyak in May 2023 to support its remote geographical location and isolation during the wet season. Our Gapuwiyak service provides residents access to free laundry and a chance to chat.Orange Sky acknowledges the land of the Gupapuyngu people and Yolŋu mobs; paying our particular respects to Traditional Custodians.

Thank you to Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation for supporting and “delivering” the laundry service. We are grateful to our local team and Gapuwiyak residents for trusting us with their washing and ongoing yarns.
