Orange Sky’s Gold Coast service has undergone a massive overhaul since its launch in January 2016.

‘Bubbles’ was originally launched in Brisbane and would make the trek down to the Gold Coast every day. In tow, Bubbles rolled down the highway with its generator outside of the van. Bubbles, along with her brothers and sisters in the fleet, have gone through a rapid evolution over the last three years from having no generator and water storage, to towing them behind the van, to eventually having all the parts tucked neatly inside.

Our laundry vans now have two washers, two dryers, a water storage tank, and a generator all in the back of a Volkswagen Transporter. Bubbles now has a home at the Gold Coast and services one of the most wide-spread locations, travelling all the way from Coolangatta up to Nerang!

We have amazing volunteers all across the country, but our Gold Coast volunteers did some pretty special work over the 2018 Commonwealth Games. They worked tirelessly to maintain as many services as possible during the Games and ensure that our friends had access to clean laundry and conversation. The Minister for Housing and Public Works, Hon Mick de Brenni presented Orange Sky with a certificate of appreciation for our efforts along with a framed artwork from the same artist who designed the medals; Delvene Cockatoo-Collins.

The six orange chairs in every Orange Sky van are the most important part of our service. They are used by our volunteers and friends to connect. Each chair represents a key cost specific to the location, and through the support of these chairs, we are able to continue helping our friends.
