Orange Sky Australia is committed to providing access to clean clothes, warm showers and genuine, non-judgemental conversation for all Australians. In remote communities, access to laundry services can be limited and cost prohibitive. To support this, Orange Sky works alongside remote communities to build impact through free laundry, local employment and local partnerships.
Our weekly impact in Maningrida
Maningrida – washing and connecting with Orange Sky since January 2020
Maningrida is Orange Sky’s third remote community, located at the heart of Arnhem Land, NT and the mouth of the Liverpool River. Traditional Owners, the Kunibídji people, call the lands ‘Manayingkarírra’, meaning “the place where the ancestral totemic beings changed shape”.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of about 2,300 residents is home to a laundry van with three washing machines and three dryers, and also a Laundry Pod, equipped with two washing machines and two dryers. These assets provide the community with access to free hot water laundry facilities, employment, and the opportunity for a yarn on Orange Sky’s six orange chairs.
We sincerely thank our partner, Malal’a for their support and operations of the service, as well as our partner Alsco Uniforms and our national partners BOQ and Aurizon. Orange Sky acknowledges and pays respects to the Kunibídji people, the Traditional Owners of an important service for Orange Sky in Maningrida.
