Orange Sky’s has been operating in Palm Island since September 2018, supporting the community with access to free laundry services.

Palm Island’s traditional name is ‘Bwgcolman’, meaning ‘one people from many groups;’ a fitting name for a beautiful island with a challenging history that has made it home to many diverse clans and language groups. Located in North Queensland, Palm Island is a predominantly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of about 5,000 residents. Orange Sky pays respects to the Manbarra people, who are the Traditional Owners of the island that we feel honoured to wash and connect on.

Orange Sky’s van ‘Yarramin’ is a laundry van with three washing machines and three dryers. We have been providing the community with access to free hot water laundry facilities and the opportunity for a yarn on Orange Sky’s six orange chairs since September 2018. Thank you to our incredible team on Palm that keep the service running.

Orange Sky Australia is committed to providing access to clean clothes, warm showers and genuine, non-judgemental conversation for all Australians. In remote communities, access to laundry services can be limited and cost prohibitive. To support this, Orange Sky works alongside remote communities to build impact through free laundry, local employment and local partnerships.
