Orange Sky Australia is committed to providing access to clean clothes, warm showers and genuine, non-judgemental conversation for all Australians. In remote communities, access to laundry services can be limited and cost prohibitive. To support this, Orange Sky works alongside remote communities to build impact through free laundry, local employment and local partnerships.

Our weekly impact in Yakanarra

Yakanarra is a Western Australia community on the edge of the St Georges Ranges, and was the location of Orange Sky’s tenth remote service.

Approximately 60 kilometres south-west of Fitzroy Crossing, Yakanarra is in stunning Country, surrounded by several sacred rock formations. We acknowledge and thank the Traditional Custodians, the Walmajarri people and residents, for welcoming the service into their community.

From November 2022 until April 2024, Orange Sky was able to provide 1,677 loads of laundry, 1,406 hours of genuine yarns and local employment opportunities to Yakanarra’s 150 residents.

Our strategic focus of providing support to remote communities continues, and we are committed to exploring all options to continue our services in the Fitzroy Valley region. If you, or someone you know, is in a position to support Orange Sky services to continue in the region – please reach out to judith.mieklejohn@orangesky.org.au.
